SciRecord uses a physical Yubico FIDO2 security key that you carry with you. The same key works across the computers you use, without relying on a credential saved to one computer or phone. Its credential stays on the key and is not synced.

Choose the connector that fits your computer. SciRecord currently accepts the Yubico FIDO2 range, including supported YubiKey 5 and YubiKey Bio models, but keys from other manufacturers are not accepted yet. Follow your browser’s prompt to create or enter the key’s PIN, or use its fingerprint sensor if it has one. User verification happens locally on the key: this page cannot read the PIN or fingerprint, write it to browser storage, or send it to SciRecord.
Your browser may ask permission to share the key’s make and model during registration. Approve that request so SciRecord can verify that it is a genuine, accepted physical key. SciRecord receives public registration information and signed proofs; the private credential remains on the key. On later visits, connect the key and verify with it when prompted to view or submit work. Learn how FIDO2 security keys work
Each SciRecord registration uses one discoverable FIDO2 credential, also called a hardware-bound passkey, on that physical key. Storage is limited and depends on the key’s model and firmware. Yubico documents limits of 25 on some earlier keys and 100 on keys with firmware 5.7.4 or later. These credentials are separate from the two OTP configuration slots shown by some Yubico tools.
SciRecord cannot inspect or erase credentials stored on the key. Before removing one, make sure another registered key works. Revoke the old key in SciRecord, then delete only its passkey with the manufacturer’s tool. Do not use a full FIDO reset for routine cleanup: it erases all FIDO2 and U2F credentials and the PIN.
